Nevermore - Path of progress-

Guild wars fan art created for the tarot charity application
I was inspired by the queen of wands card, and Nevermore is probably my favorite staff within the game.

When I first entered this contest I was only starting to scratch the surface on creating compositions color, contrast, I have taken the advice of those that have commented during the reply to thank me for the entries and I used those and my mentor's suggestions to make improvements. This is the Path so far that this piece has taken and I decided to show various stages.

Guild Wars 2- Nevermore is a legendary staff with a raven spirit attached. This was the final that I had turned in for the contest

boosted up the highlights that would come from the staff. Still need to do something with the immediate background. The comment was color choice and beware of muddling. So I still think this is a work in progress.

I had started playing around bringing more focus on both her and the staff but instead of recreating , which didn't make for much improvements, but it did show me the value of creating silhouettes and bringing the subject forward

So i started playing with different concepts outside of the contest- first bringing the characters eyes forward towards the viewer but the background was cluttered and the contrasts off because of the glow would distract to behind her

So ran the rework of trying to capture the rise as I had with my original design, and played with leading the eye without overwhelming it, and deciding on a palette that would help bring the subjects from the background

There are many positive things in this piece and I achieved alot of what i had been looking to do.

This was the last version that I touched before my mentor told me to take a break from this piece and do a few more studies mainly because of the local value and contrast. While the composition itself showed my progress we still had work to do on values.
